Bridge To Preschool

Our Junior Preschool classroom serves as an important bridge between toddler learning and preschool readiness. In this classroom, children continue developing independence, confidence, communication skills, and problem-solving abilities through purposeful play, structured routines, and hands-on learning experiences.

Teachers introduce early writing, literacy, math, science, sensory exploration, art, music, and physical movement in meaningful and engaging ways that support the whole child. Children are encouraged to ask questions, build friendships, make choices, and gain confidence in their growing abilities while strengthening the social-emotional and academic skills needed for future classroom success. This classroom also focuses on mastering potty training, classroom routines, and independence in a supportive and encouraging environment.

Preschool Readiness

Our junior preschool classroom focuses on building the skills children need for a successful transition into preschool and beyond. A strong emphasis is placed on social-emotional development, helping children learn to regulate emotions, work with peers, and build confidence in group settings.

We also introduce early academic foundations through meaningful, play-based experiences. Children are exposed to letters, their names, numbers, and early literacy and math concepts in a hands-on, engaging way. Alongside this, we support the development of friendships, communication skills, and problem-solving abilities as children learn to navigate social situations and work through challenges independently and with support.

Independence

The junior preschool classroom serves as an important bridge between toddlerhood and preschool, with a strong focus on developing independence and self-confidence. Children are encouraged to take an active role in their daily routines by practicing self-help skills such as dressing themselves, managing toileting routines, cleaning up after activities, and making simple choices throughout the day.

In addition to building independence in daily tasks, children learn important social-emotional skills that prepare them for preschool. Teachers guide children in expressing their thoughts and feelings, solving conflicts with peers, managing emotions, following classroom routines, and developing self-regulation skills. Through encouragement, practice, and supportive relationships, children gain the confidence and independence needed to successfully transition into the preschool classroom.

Assessment

At You and Me Academy, we use Teaching Strategies GOLD® (TSG) to observe and document each child’s growth and development through everyday play, interactions, and learning experiences. These observations help us gain a deeper understanding of each child’s strengths, interests, and areas of growth.

Because every child develops at their own pace, assessments allow us to provide individualized support and meaningful learning opportunities that meet children where they are. Through intentional observation, one-on-one interactions, and responsive teaching practices, we are able to build on each child’s unique abilities while supporting continued growth and development across all areas of learning.

Preparing your Child for Preschool Beyond Academics

Preschool readiness is about much more than recognizing letters, numbers, and shapes. Children thrive when they have opportunities to develop independence, build relationships, communicate their needs, solve problems, and manage their emotions. These resources explore what it truly means to be ready for preschool and how families can support their child’s growth and development through everyday experiences at home.
